I

  • Impetigo - a contagious, common bacterial skin infection that affects the superficial layers of the skin.

  • Kidney transplantation - is a surgical procedure in which an individual whose own kidneys have failed receives a new kidney to take over the task of cleansing the blood of waste materials.
  • Kaposi's sarcoma - A form of cancer in which malignant cells form in the tissues of the mouth, nose and anus. Formerly rare, KS has become a marker for the development of AIDS.
  • Keloids - Raised, red scars at a wound site that result from uncontrolled collagen production and usually extend beyond wound boundaries.
  • Keratoses, seborrheic - Raised growths on the skin that may appear individually or in clusters of dozens.
  • Keratosis, actinic - Small, rough spots on skin that has been chronically exposed to the sun. They are commonly found on the face, scalp, back of the neck, upper chest, forearm and back of the hand.
  • Kidney infection - A bacterial infection in one or both kidneys. It usually ascends from the genital or urinary regions.

Drugs starting with I-K

  • Ibuprofen - is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), which relieves pain and swelling.
  • Isotretinoin - used topically for the treatment of acne. It may also be given by mouth, under the supervision of a hospital specialist, for severe cases of acne that are unresponsive to antibiotics.
