Potential side effects Some of the side effects that can occur with anastrozole may not need medical attention. As your body adjusts to the medicine during treatment these side effects may go away. Your health care professional may also be able to tell you about ways to reduce or prevent some of these side effects. If any of the following side effects continue, are bothersome or if you have any questions about them, check with your health care professional: back pain, belching, body aches or pain, bone pain, congestion, constipation, decrease in height, diarrhea, dry mouth.
Cautions Arimidex is only for postmenopausal women. Arimidex should not be taken if you are pregnant because it may harm your unborn child. Do not take Arimidex if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Based on information from a study in patients with early breast cancer, women with a history of blockages in heart arteries (ischemic heart disease) who take Arimidex may have a slight increase in this type of heart disease compared to similar patients who take tamoxifen. In a clinical study in early breast cancer, some patients taking Arimidex had an increase in cholesterol. Skin reactions, allergic reactions, and changes in blood tests of liver function have also been reported. Arimidex should not be taken with tamoxifen or estrogen-containing therapies.
Drug interactions Using thalidomide together with Anastrozole can increase the risk of dangerous blood clots. The risk is also increased with age, cigarette smoking, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. You may need to take a blood thinner or undergo more frequent monitoring by your doctor to safely use both medications. You should seek immediate medical attention if you experience potential signs and symptoms of blood clots such as chest pain, shortness of breath, difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, sudden loss of vision, and/or pain, redness or swelling in an arm or leg. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.
Food interactions You may take Arimidex (anastrozole) with or without food.

Special information Arimidex in Bodybuilding. In athletics and bodybuilding, Arimidex is used as an ancillary compound within anabolic steroid cycles for its estrogen reducing properties, and has the additional benefit of modestly increasing testosterone levels. For the steroid using male athlete, Arimidex shows great potential. Up to this point, drugs like Nolvadex and Clomid have been our weapons against excess estrogen. These drugs, especially in combination, do prove quite effective. But Arimidex appears able to do the job much more efficiently, and with less hassle. Its use is only now catching on, but early reports have been excellent. A single tablet daily, the same dose use clinically, seems to be all one needs for an exceptional effect (some even report excellent results with only 2 tablet daily). When used with strong, readily aromatizing androgens such as Dianabol or Testosterone, gynecomastia and water retention can be effectively blocked.
