Description
Clopidogrel belongs to the class of drugs called antiplatelet drugs.
This class of medications that reduce the ability of platelets (specialized blood cells) to stick together, which occurs normally as part of the blood-clotting process.
Antiplatelet drugs are used to prevent the formation of blood clots in arteries, when anticoagulants are ineffective.
Plavix used to prevent strokes or heart attacks occurring in people at risk, particularly in those who have had a previous stroke or heart attack.

Mechanism of action
Selectively and irreversibly inhibits ADP-induced platelet aggregation by inhibiting the binding of ADP to its receptors on platelets, thereby affecting ADP-dependent activation of the glycoprotein IIb / IIIa complex, the major site of platelet-fibrinogen binding.
Potential side effects
Bleeding from the stomach, intestines, or elsewhere can occur. Other side effects may include nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, constipation, diarrhoea, headache, dizziness, and rashes. Contact your healthcare provider or pharmacist if you experience any other effects not listed here.
Cautions
- If you have a history of gastrointestinal bleeding or a history of clotting disorders or ulcers, you should not use this medication.
- It is not recommended for people with severe angina or for those who have had coronary-artery surgery.
- It should be used with caution in people with liver or kidney disease.
Drug interactions
Before buying Plavix, you will need to closely monitor your dosage and condition if you are also taking the following medications: warfarin, heparin, ibuprofen or naproxen (NSAIDs), phenytoin, tamoxifen, tolbutamide, torsemide, and fluvastatin as certain medicines or medical conditions may interact with this medicine.
Warfarin should not be used with clopidogrel. Anticoagulants: their effects are enhanced by Plavix. NSAIDS (including aspirin): may increase the risk of gastrointestinal bleeding.
